OUR ORIGINS

Gusuku Dojo was founded by a group of friends that have been practicing karate together for a very long time. 

​

In 1988, Jean-Christophe Callet-Raval founded the Shorei Ryu Karate Do (SRKD) club with sensei René Ramanitrandrasana (with whom he studied for over 30 years). He discovered Japan and the Jundokan dojo in his first trip to Okinawa in 1999. Jean-Christophe, Madeleine and Antoine Papiernik as well as Florence Encrevé met at SRKD in 2000. They developed the club and the teachings of Goju Ryu karate in collaboration with Sensei René. They have trained in Okinawa at the So Honbu dojo many times and have taken part in international Jundokan seminars around the world.

In 2019, Madeleine, Antoine and Jean-Christophe left SRKD to create the Jundokan France Gusuku Dojo (Dojo du Chateau) to deepen their understanding and  research of Jundokan Karate. Their ambition is to recreate the ambiance and the training methods of the original Jundokan dojo  in Naha Okinawa, where the direct students of its founder Eiichi Miyazato teach, including Hanshi Tetsu Gima, Hanshi Tsuneo Kinjo, Hanshi Kazuya Higa, now under the aegis of Miyazato Kancho.
